David Pollack makes the Heisman Trophy case for Georgia QB Carson Beck: 'He's better than Stetson'
Former Georgia star David Pollack made a Heisman Trophy case for Bulldogs quarterback Carson Beck as a replacement for Stetson Bennett. Beck, who was not named the official starter, might be the guy by the fall.
But Pollack was high on Georgia’s new signal caller, saying he’s better than two-time national champion Bennett. Bennett was under center the last two years and was one of the best big game quarterbacks in football.
Now with the Los Angeles Rams, Bennett made way for Beck and a potentially special season with Georgia.
“First of all, he can throw, he can sling the crap out of it,” Pollack said of Beck, via Dawgs HQ. “Ridiculous accuracy, really smart. I would say right now he’s better than Stetson but the thing will be big games, big moments. Like that stuff you can’t predict and so I think with the hype and that stuff like says he was the best big game quarterback we’ve seen in a long time. But Carson from the tool standpoint and tangibles, surrounded by people, he’ll be just fine.”
It’s not the most compelling case from an analytical perspective, but Pollack firmly believed in the Georgia system. Heck, people counted out Bennett when he came to the Bulldogs and he wasn’t even supposed to start.

Like Bennett, Beck could easily be set up for success at Georgia. With spring wrapped up, Beck won’t slow down anytime soon.
“I’d say I’m content with the way that I attacked and performed throughout spring and approached the competition part of it,” Beck said. “Really just focusing on myself first and foremost and trying to better myself and the little areas that I think that I can do. I think the biggest thing is to continue this connection with the wide receivers you know?
“Obviously there’s a lot of guys that came in with me and we’ve been throwing since I was a freshman, but the little intricacies and different routes and how to run different things against different coverages and just little timing. Those things that will just make us better and more explosive.”
As a member of the Class of 2020, Beck was a four-star recruit out of Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 34 overall prospect in the state, the No. 16 quarterback in the class and the No. 224 overall prospect in the class.
