David Pollack compares Carson Beck's traits to Stetson Bennett
David Pollack is excited to see Carson Beck take over the Georgia Bulldogs, but relented the fact that he’s nothing like the quarterback he’s replacing.
Stetson Bennett led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national titles, making smart decisions and using his play-making abilities to get the job done. Evidently, Pollack doesn’t believe Beck possesses the same style of play as Bennett, but that’s all well and good, because he does a lot of other things very well.
“He doesn’t run like Stetson. There’s no doubt about that. But he is mobile. … It ain’t in there like Stetson. I bet you he’s probably like a 4.9 guy. 4.8 guy, maybe. Like he can get out of it, but play-making is definitely not his thing,” explained Pollack, speaking with Greg McElroy. “His release is quick. His brain is good.
“I remember talking, you know Kirby’s son played in our youth football organization we have here in Athens, and I just remember talking when JT [Daniels] was the starter a couple of years ago, before they won the first natty, and he was like, ‘Dude, this Carson Beck kid, I love him. Like I love his makeup. I love what he’s about. I love the way he prepares.’ So I don’t think he’s going to be, I know he’s not going to be the scrambler. I think he’s going to know where to go with the football really, really well.”
Nevertheless, Pollack believes having talented play-makers like Georgia has littered throughout the offense will make things that much easier for Beck, as he gets his feet wet as the team’s starting quarterback.

“This offense is so easy to play in, because of Brock Bowers. Like it’s very simple,” added Pollack. “This is not a — you walk up to the line of scrimmage, and you can be like, ‘Okay, do you want to put a nickel on that guy? Okay, we’ll run the football.’ It’s the easiest system in the world, because Brock is the ultimate chess piece. So I think he’ll make it easy, with Ladd [McConkey] and all the experience. … All the pieces I think are there.
“I don’t think Carson Beck has to be sensational, or be extra special. I think he can play within that system and be great.”
It remains to be seen, but Georgia will have high expectations regardless, whether Carson Beck is the quarterback or not. With a three-peat on the line, hopefully he comes through in a big way.
