The Georgia Bulldogs fell to 12th in the latest College Football Playoff Selection Committee Rankings. With that, the Bulldogs fell out of the current Playoff bracket despite coming into the season as one of the favorites to win the national championship.

Former Georgia Bulldogs star and current college football analyst David Pollack made an appearance on Always College Football. There, he defended Georgia’s resume while addressing some issues that have presented themselves this season.

“First of all, if anybody played Georgia’s schedule, I think they’d be sitting in the same spot or worse.” David Pollack said. “Because they’ve played four top 20 teams away from home. Like, you’re gonna lose those games. That’s just gonna happen. I think that’s tough.”

One major critique this season has been with the inconsistent play of Georgia’s offense, particularly coming off a 10-point performance against Ole Miss. Those critiques have often fallen on quarterback Carson Beck‘s shoulders, as he’s thrown 12 interceptions in the last six games.

“But the flaws are legit. Colbie Young coming back could be a huge deal for them. You saw him against Bama, You saw him earlier in the year. I was ready to — I said before the season, you can chalk up 10 touchdowns to that dude because he’s so big and he’s athletic,” Pollack said. “He’s a playmaker on the outside that Carson’s just going to throw jump ball to after jump ball. If he could possibly come back, which might happen sooner rather than later, should make them better. You’re right about the flaws on the offensive line. You’re right about the playmakers at wide receiver. Those aren’t getting fixed.”

While the offense does clearly have some issues, David Pollack does still see plenty of good on this Georgia team. In particular, there’s a ton of talent on the defensive side of the ball.

“But, I’ll spin it to the other side. I don’t think the DBs have been great but you’ve got three guys that are top 20 picks on that defense with Mykel [Williams], with Jalon Walker, with Malaki Starks,” Pollack said. “You’ve got a lot of talent. I’m just punting on the offense. I just don’t see it. I don’t know how they’re going to get that fixed. Their best player to me is a freshman in Nate Frazier but he puts the ball on the ground and Coach can’t put him on the field. So, the offensive line, you have to get more physical and more dominant.”

Despite those struggles, Georgia isn’t out of a 12-team College Football Playoff. With three games remaining, there’s time to play into the field or have other teams fall out of it. That puts a ton of pressure on the Bulldogs this week against Tennessee.

“But that being said, I know how this game works too, and they’ll beat Tennessee at home this week because they’re playing at home with that advantage and then they’re right back in the Playoff picture with some time to maybe get some people healthy because they have been banged up, Pollack said.

“First of all, how many teams in the Top 15 could win a Natty? Could you literally go, ‘I think they could win a national championship? Because I think the list is longer than we’ve ever seen in our lives. It’s just nuts how many teams I think could possibly win this thing.”

Kickoff between Tennessee and Georgia is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. EST in Athens on Saturday.
