David Pollack delivers reality check about Georgia offense

The Georgia Bulldogs dropped their second game of the 2024 season on the road against Ole Miss with the offense only scoring 10 points in the game. For the offense, it was another instance where that unit had to battle through some inconsistencies.
Former Bulldog and current college football analyst David Pollack weighed in on the offense, explaining that next week is a new opportunity. However, he did also deliver a reality check, sharing that he doesn’t expect much to change on that side of the ball this season.
“A lot of frustration when you watch Georgia and their offense this season,” Pollack said. “I don’t expect it to get fixed. I don’t spin it forward to next week and I say, ‘You’re at home and it’s a different game.’ The game is different when you’re at home. So, I don’t just all of a sudden go, ‘Tennessee‘s guaranteed to win next week.’ But, if you’re waiting for Georgia to change and for Georgia to all of a sudden become explosive, I don’t think that’s gonna happen.”
In the five games leading up to the Ole Miss game, Georgia scored at least 30 points in each game. For the season, the Bulldogs are averaging 30.6 points per game, which is 48th in the country in scoring offense. The Georgia offense is also averaging 410.6 yards per game on offense, which is 50th in the country in total offense. However, there have been stretches at times, like the Ole Miss and Kentucky games, where the offense struggles to score or move the ball.
One issue, in particular, has become turnovers. Quarterback Carson Beck has thrown 12 interceptions in the last six games. Not all of those are his fault, but those turnovers have disrupted the flow of the Bulldogs’ offense. Despite that, head coach Kirby Smart has shared that he has “absolutely not” considered making a change at the quarterback position.

When Smart was asked about the team’s struggles on offense this season, he pointed to the schedule Georgia has played and the high-caliber defenses throughout the SEC.
“We’ve played really good defenses,” Smart said. “So, you guys will look at a stat sheet and you’ll say, ‘Where do they rank?’ And I’ll say, ‘Well, against who?’ Because relative to who we’ve played, we’ve played some really good teams. But I would be remiss if I would say that we’re happy with where we are. We’re not happy with where we are. We played some really, really, really, really good defenses I think this year, more than most people in terms of their schedule.”
Next up for Georgia is Tennessee in a game that the Bulldogs will need to win to avoid losing three regular season games for the first time since 2016, Smart’s first season.
