We’re all aware of Georgia’s upcoming effort toward history as they look to three-peat for the first time in the modern era of college football. Still, like many others, David Pollack has just one question that’ll determine whether or not he thinks that they can pull it off.

The former Bulldog defensive lineman joined Greg McElroy on ‘Always College Football’ on Monday and talked about UGA. In the end, Pollack came back to the quarterback question as well considering he has belief in Carson Beck’s potential but, with that said, replacing Stetson Bennett’s presence outright is a whole other thing.

It’s going to start at quarterback, right? You’re going to have to have an elite quarterback,” Pollack said.

Here’s the thing with Carson Beck – If you go watch Carson Beck? And I’m sure you’ve already seen enough of him, Greg. He’s bigger, he’s stronger, he throws a better ball, better strength than Stetson Bennett. So I think, immediately, people are going to be like, ‘Oh my god! You just said he’s better than Stetson Bennett!'” said Pollack. “He’s got more talent than Stetson Bennett. But what we saw with Stetson Bennett was he had onions for days and that dude never blinked. He didn’t bat an eye. He had the ultimate belief in himself.”

Besides quarterback, and, to a lesser degree, offensive coordinator, though, Pollack has no other concerns about Georgia. They did lose some key players to the next level but, with what they still have on the roster and how their schedule looks, all he has to see is the new offense and quarterback come together before he truly jumps on the hype train.

“They lost a bunch of guys to the NFL just like they did the year before. The schedule is extremely favorable. You’ve got a bunch of guys back that are impact players just like you did the year before,” said Pollack. “The offense, I think, is set up in a really good spot because you have one of the best tight ends to ever play the game of football so you can build everything you want around that spot, which makes it extremely easy.”

“But Mike Bobo comes in. What does that look like with a new quarterback? I think it’s definitely something that you question a little bit,” said Pollack.

It’s hard to judge anything that Kirby Smart has built and since showed off in Athens over the past two seasons. With essentially everything in place again, Pollack, even with his unease at quarterback, sees more than one thing that’s favoring the ‘Dawgs as they prepare for their second consecutive title defense.

“You don’t question the culture. You don’t question what Georgia’s been able to build and how they’ve built it,” Pollack said. “The dudes are there, the coaching, obviously, is there. The complacency is going to be there too but the schedule sets up, obviously, pretty dang nicely too.”
