Former Georgia staffer Maurice Sims has accepted a position as director of strength and conditioning at Jackson State, where he will work under head coach Deion Sanders, according to a report from Football Scoop. The former Division II All-Conference defensive back has spent the past several years working with multiple Power Five schools and most recently worked as associate strength and conditioning coach for the Bulldogs.

Before joining Georgia in 2020, Maurice Sims spent time at Indiana, North Carolina and Tennessee. In addition he rose through the ranks with multiple others stops including the Army football program, where the team went 21-5 over his two-year stint on staff.

The Tennessee native played college football at Concord University before transferring to Chattanooga to get his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science. He then received a master’s degree in Transformative Leadership from Bethune-Cookman. He holds multiple certifications which make him eligible to work as a strength and conditioning coach in the NCAA.

Georgia assistant makes announcement on absence

One of college football’s more respected assistant coaches is Georgia‘s special team coordinator Scott Cochran. A long-time member of Nick Saban‘s staff in Alabama, he is now in Athens with head coach Kirby Smart and doing what he usually does — win national championships.

However, there is still more to life than just football. Every coach and player has a personal life and goes through their daily ups and downs. For Cochran, Monday was a positive day, with the Georgia assistant announcing one year of sobriety. He posted the news on Instagram, celebrating his accomplishment.

“Proud to be 1 year sober,” Cochran said. “This one means a lil more than the rings.”

In the Instagram photo, Cochran does show off those national championship rings, where he nearly has enough to fill up both his hands. Now, as he continues to put out positive news about his health off the field, the wins keep adding up there as well.
