LOOK: Dick's Sporting Goods tweets hilarious slip-up during national title game

In an effort to get their Georgia national championship gear to the market first, Dick’s Sporting Goods jumped the gun.
With over 12 minutes left to play in the national championship game, Dick’s Sporting Goods mistakenly named the Georgia Bulldogs the 2021 national champions, despite at the time of the tweet trailing Alabama 18-13.
At 11:00 p.m. ET, Dick’s Sporting Goods tweeted a graphic with an array of Georgia Bulldogs national championship apparel. The graphic contained a link to the Dick’s website, which had listed 336 different products branded towards Georgia’s national championship — the one that the Bulldogs had not won yet.
“Take the title back to the hedges,” Dick’s tweeted. “Celebrate the victory and purchase your official Georgia Bulldogs champions gear online at DICK’S Sporting Goods.”

As of 11:25 p.m. ET, the time of publication, Dick’s tweet has not yet been deleted. Additionally, the link to their website fit with Bulldogs national championship gear, is still active as of now.

The tweet has been up for so long that Georgia, which trailed Alabama 18-13 when the link first went live, has since retaken the lead. Georgia managed to take a four-play drive for 75 yards after Adonai Mitchell reeled in a 40-yard pass from Stetson Bennett, punching it in for a touchdown.

Controversial fumble call sets up Alabama for go ahead touchdown vs. Georgia
There’s more controversy in the national championship — and this one was a game-changer.
In the fourth quarter, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett appeared to throw a ball out of bounds to avoid a sack. Instead, the referees ruled it a fumble, recovered by Alabama’s Brian Branch.
After a replay review, it turned out Branch’s foot was barely in bounds, which meant the ruling stood. Then, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young found Cameron Latu for the go-ahead touchdown to put the Crimson Tide ahead 18-13 with 10:14 left in the national championship. They didn’t get the two-point conversion.
Georgia fans weren’t too happy about it, either. They threw garbage onto the field in protest before Young threw the touchdown. In a back and forth game — and it’s getting more and more interesting as it goes on.
It’s the second time Georgia fell victim to an overturned call. Earlier in the game, the Bulldogs had a scoop-and-score negated when the officials overturned it to an incomplete pass.
