Dillon Bell injury update: ESPN broadcast gives troubling news on Georgia WR
Georgia wide receiver Dillon Bell left Saturday’s game against Tennessee after being attended to by trainers on the field. He has not returned to the game and according to ESPN’s Holly Rowe, Bell will be out for the rest of the game.
It’s the ankle area bothering Bell as the broadcast showed him needed help to get back to the locker room just before halftime. Rowe also explained the impact this loss will have on the Georgia offense, having a good bit of the game plan schemed around him.
There is just not anybody on the roster with a similar play style, potentially causing offensive coordinator Mike Bobo to change some things up.
“Dillon Bell has been taken to the Georgia locker room,” Rowe said. “We saw him come down awkwardly on that play in the end zone. They were examining his high ankle and lower shin area. As he was limping off the sideline, he was very emotional. I’m told he is out for now as they do further evaluations. This is a big loss, they had a ton in the offense for him as a Swiss army knife. Not sure who can fill all those roles now that he is out.”

Bell was injured on a play where he took a handoff from quarterback Carson Beck, putting Georgia inside the two-yard line. He was able to hobble across some of the field but eventually went down to the ground. Not a sight anyone in Georgia colors wanted and the resulting news is not positive.
Georgia will now have to play the rest of this game without one of their top targets. This will be as important of a second half Georgia has played this season, likely needing a win to keep their chances of making the College Football Playoff alive.
Bell’s long-term status will certainly be a question for Kirby Smart moving forward. Two nonconference games remain on the schedule, facing UMass and Georgia Tech to close out the year.
