Sad news touched Athens, Georgia on Tuesday with the Georgia Bulldogs announcing that their live Bulldog mascot Uga X passed away in his sleep in the morning.

Uga X, also known as Que, was born on May 27, 2013, and formally began his tenure as the Bulldogs live mascot on November 21, 2015. Que retired following the 2022 season, ending his tenure as the tenth live mascot in Georgia’s school history. Regarded as one of the most beloved and well-known live mascots in sports and the most decorated in the program as a part of both of the Bulldogs recent pair of national championship wins.

College football analyst Kirk Herbstreit shared his condolences following Que’s passing, penning a heartfelt message via Twitter that can be seen below.

“Very sorry to hear about Que passing away. What a champion. Had a chance to meet him couple different times including postgame in Indy after a @GeorgiaFootball National Championship. My condolences,” Herbstreit tweeted Tuesday.

Herbstreit is a known dog lover, bringing his golden retriever Ben with him on numerous occasions to games and his media obligations throughout this past football season. Ben and UGA XI (Boom), Que’s successor and current mascot, even met one another before the SEC Championship game last season. Sharing a delightful moment on the sidles prior to kickoff documented by Herbstreit’s son Jake.
