Former Kentucky outfielder Nolan McCarthy commits to Georgia
Former Kentucky outfielder Nolan McCarthy has committed to Georgia after entering the transfer portal this offseason according to a post from his Instagram account. Following former Wildcats’ assistant Nick Ammirati from Lexington to Athens ahead of his senior season.
McCarthy joins the Bulldogs after spending all four seasons of his college career with Kentucky, deciding to spend the last season of his college career with Georgia as a redshirt senior. Fresh off of the strongest season during his time in Lexington as a crucial piece of Kentucky’s run to the College World Series in Omaha.

In 2024 McCarthy played in a career-high 58 games for the Wildcats, batting .288 with 57 hits, 43 runs, 41 RBIs, 12 doubles, and eight home runs on the season. Providing Kentucky with a multitude of big time plays during the postseason like his game-winning run in Game 3 of the Lexington Super Regional. Diving head first into home plate to score and help advance the program to their first ever appearance in the College World Series. Also hitting a two-run homer in Kentucky’s 5-4 win over NC State in Omaha.
McCarthy played prep baseball at Portage Northern High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan where he was ranked the the No. 4 shortstop and No. 10 overall player in the state for the 2021 recruiting class according to Perfect Game. Winning a state championship in 2019 in a year where he was also a First-Team Division I All-State selection. Also a standout hockey player who earned all-district honors for his exploits on the ice.

Georgia adds a veteran bat to their lineup as McCarthy transfers with 125 games played, 103 total hits, and 43 runs in his college career. Staying connected with the former Kentucky assistant, Nick Ammirati, who has spent the last three seasons with Wildcats before joining Georgia’s staff as an assistant coach as well on July 1. Replacing former Bulldogs’ assistant coach Josh Simpson who rejoined LSU’s staff in an offseason that’s been filled with coach and player movement within the conference.
