Former Georgia defensive lineman Bear Alexander was spotted in Athens Saturday ahead of the Bulldogs’ game against Tennessee.

Alexander is still a member of USC’s roster and has not entered the transfer portal as of Saturday. He planned on sitting out the rest of the season after appearing in four games for the Trojans.

He was originally part of Georgia’s Class of 2022 group before transferring to USC ahead of the 2023 campaign. But now, the conversation around the defensive lineman is heating up.

Alexander was one of the highest-profile redshirt situations earlier this season. Of course, the biggest was at UNLV, where Matthew Sluka announced he planned to sit out the rest of the season and enter the transfer portal amid an NIL situation. On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed the former Holy Cross quarterback was verbally promised a $100,000 NIL deal, but only received a $3,000 relocation fee.

But Alexander’s decision also generated headlines, and Lincoln Riley said he wouldn’t address it further after initially commenting ahead of the matchup against Wisconsin. Tuesday, he again told reporters he thinks USC has “said all we’ll say on this.”

“I think guys should have five years,” Riley told reporters. “Do whatever you want, play as much as you want or as little as you want, and the only way you get an extra one is if you have two season-ending injuries and miss the whole season.

“I think it should be that plain and simple and be done, and then nobody’ll have to worry about this other crap about how many games you’ve played and all that. I understand why it’s there, but I still think it’s a little bit behind the times.”

Alexander has 61 total tackles in nearly three seasons with Georgia and USC. He also has 3.5 sacks and four pass deflections.

As a member of the Class of 2022, Alexander was a four-star recruit out of Denton (Texas) IMG Academy (Fla.), according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 8 overall prospect in the state of Florida, the No. 7 defensive lineman in the class and the No. 43 overall prospect in the class.
