Georgia center Frank Anselem plans to enter the transfer portal, he told On3’s Joe Tipton. He spent two years with the Bulldogs after starting his career at Syracuse.

Anselem appeared in 29 games this past season in Athens, including three starts. In that time, he averaged 2.6 points and 2.1 rebounds while shooting 62.8% from the floor. That came after a 2022-23 season in which he scored 2.9 points per game in a career-high 14.6 minutes on average.

As a freshman at Syracuse in 2020, Anselem only played in four games, but found himself as a regular contributor as a sophomore in 2021-22. He appeared in 32 games that year and averaged 2.6 points to go with a career-high 3.8 rebounds.

Anselem arrived on the college scene as a three-star prospect and the No. 183 overall player from the 2020 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

More on Georgia’s efforts in the transfer portal

Frank Anselem will be the sixth Georgia player to officially hit the portal this cycle, including RJ Melendez, who transferred last week after starting his career at Illinois. The Bulldogs are bringing in three players to help offset those losses, though. The latest addition came last week when former Mount St. Mary’s guard Dakota Leffew committed to the Bulldogs.

A high-level scorer, Leffew was a first team All-MAAC selection last year and put up big numbers. He averaged 17.6 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.9 assists per game. A native of Hampton, Ga., his commitment to Georgia brings him closer to home.

Leffew isn’t the only former Mount St. Mary’s player to commit to Georgia, though. De’Shayne Montgomery announced his commitment April 18 after putting up 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game this past season. He also shot nearly 54% from the field and 41% from three-point territory.

Georgia went 20-17 overall and 6-12 in SEC play in the second year of the Mike White era in Athens. They clinched an appearance in the NIT, where they lost to eventual champion Seton Hall in the semifinals at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

The NCAA transfer portal window opened after Selection Sunday and will stay open through Wednesday, May 1. According to new guidance, all players – even graduate transfers – must submit their paperwork to enter the portal by then.
