Frank Anselem shares how Georgia has spent time off
Georgia is in the midst of a 12-day break from competitive basketball. The Bulldog hoops team last performed on December 6th, where they fell by just two points against rival Georgia Tech. With the semester finishing up and Finals taking place this week, many schools are playing less games than normal. However, Georgia’s gap in between games is larger than most.
Not that Frank Anselem is complaining. The junior center says the team hasn’t had a break like this since the summer. After a busy start to the year, it’s nice to have things die down a bit around the Holidays. At the team’s media availability this week, Anselem spoke on how important the rest has been for the team:
“So, after the game, the next day we had a mandatory off day out there. And then we were right back at it. Thursday, Friday, practice hard, and Saturday, Sunday we had two more openings. That’s like the first time we had a weekend off since probably the summer. And this week we’ve been going at it every day. So it’s not like you were awful. You just got off practice for several days.”
Good for the guys to catch a breath. But the schedule gets kicking here in a couple days while the SEC slate looms large. Time for Mike White’s squad to get refocused.
Mike White says lengthy time off was ‘much-needed’ for Georgia
Mike White agrees with Frank Anselem that the time off is definitely nice for the team. While speaking to the media ahead of Georgia’s game against Notre Dame, Mike White explained how the layoff has helped the Bulldogs.

“Much needed opportunity to get healthy, both from a physical standpoint and obviously we suffered a bunch of illness there for a while,” Mike White said. “To get rest. To be able to focus solely on academics there for a few days.”
“We were a little rusty when we came back a couple days ago. Yesterday, we were really really sharp. It’s probably as good as we’ve been. Hopefully, we see the same thing today.”
From the sounds of it, Mike White was happy to have the break. After using it to get healthy, the Bulldogs have been able to shake off the rust and get ready to make a run during the second half of the season. They’ll need that health to compete in a loaded SEC this season.
Next up for Georgia is a game against Notre Dame out of the ACC on Sunday, December 18th.
