Greensboro (N.C.) Grimsley four-star defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett announced his commitment to Georgia on July 19. He is currently one of 14 top-200 prospects in the Bulldogs’ 2023 recruiting class.

Jarrett is also one of three defensive lineman committed to Georgia along with Valdosta (Ga.) IMG Academy four-star Gabriel Harris and Powder Springs (Ga.) McEachern three-star Seven Cloud. The 6-foot-5, 365 pound prospect is looking forward to playing with top-level talent when he arrives in Athens.

“Georgia is going to make me great,” Jarrett told On3. “I love being pushed hard, coached hard, and developed. At Georgia, I know I will get (all) of that. It is a win-win for me at Georgia. I am getting developed by great coaches and I am playing for coaches that care about their players.”

Jarrett is the No. 177 overall prospect and the No. 22 defensive lineman in the 2023 On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 4 player in North Carolina.

One of the main reasons Jarrett chose to leave the Tar Heel State was because of defensive line coach Tray Scott. He has mentored multiple players, including first-round picks such as Jordan Davis.

“Coach Tray Scott is my guy,” Jarrett said. “He is known for developing players. He turns good players into great players. From when he was at North Carolina and now at Georgia, coach Scott gets the most out of his guys. He is a great coach, a smart coach, and someone I believe in.”

When asked his decision, Jarrett loves that he is going to be a Bulldog and is looking forward to his future with the program. The four-star is also excited to be a part of Georgia’s family environment.

“It is like one big family at Georgia,” Jarrett said. “I felt it when I was there. Everyone is on the same page. The Georgia program is about each other. The players, the coaches, and the recruits are all one. It is going to be great to be part of that.”

In addition to chasing a state championship, Jarrett will pay close attention to Georgia’s performance this season. The Bulldogs started their 2022 campaign off strong by defeating Oregon 49-3 on Saturday.

“With coach Kirby Smart as the head coach, I know Georgia will always be great on defense,” Jarrett said. “He is a defensive-minded head coach, so this season, I want to see what the offense looks like. Of course, I will be watching coach Scott and what he does with the defensive line, but the offense will be fun for me to watch. They have weapons and everyone talks about the defense, so watching the offense is something I am looking forward to.”
