Georgia AD Josh Brooks blasts 'inconsistency' of College Football Playoff ranking process
In the wake of being ranked No. 12 by the College Football Playoff selection committee at 7-2, there’s been a common refrain from those attached to Georgia football and athletics: The committee isn’t respecting the Bulldogs’ strength of schedule.
Georgia has played the toughest schedule in the country so far this season, according to the Sagarin rankings. Thusly, the Bulldogs have a handful of impressive wins — a neutral site thrashing of Clemson, a no-doubter win at Texas — to go with the pair of losses.
And athletic director Josh Brooks was the latest to join the chorus, calling out the CFP selection committee on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Friday in Athens.
“We have to be humble in this process but I will say this, I know the committee made a statement that they had questions about the inconsistency of our team,” Brooks said. “I would question the inconsistency of their ranking process, quite frankly. But if you want to talk about consistency, what has been consistent has been the strength of our schedule and I would challenge any of them to think about any other team in that Top 12, what their schedule would look like had they gone on the road and played the games that we played. Even a neutral site at Clemson, a Top 20 team. A neutral site against your rival Florida. Doesn’t matter what the record of either team is in those games. And then going on the road, Kentucky, Alabama, Texas, Ole Miss. So that’s all I’ll say about that.”

Georgia is currently the third-highest ranked two-loss team in the rankings and the only teams ahead of the Bulldogs with two losses both hold head-to-head wins over Georgia: Alabama and Ole Miss.
Brooks also added that all he can do in response is be like his head football coach, Kirby Smart, and control what he can control.
“No different than coach Smart,” Brooks said. “We focus on what we can control, right? So my focus is on today. What can I do at the end of the day to make us better and my focus is on what can I do that can impact the game on Saturday night. So from my standpoint, I’ve got to ensure that we’re putting the best environment out there for our fans, for our student athletes to create that home field advantage.”
