It’s not too often you see a college athletic director toss a javelin. But that’s exactly what Georgia athletic director Josh Brooks did this week — and it was awesome.

Brooks showed off his javelin-throwing skills during a Georgia track practice on Wednesday, and distance runner Clay Pender captured it on video. The best part? Brooks did it barefoot and while wearing a shirt and tie.

Pender challenged users to “show [him] AD that can can throw the javelin further than” Brooks. It’s hard to find an answer right now.

More on Josh Brooks, Georgia

Brooks took over as Georgia’s athletic director in January 2021 after previously working as the Bulldogs’ senior deputy athletic director. An LSU alum, he got his start at Louisiana-Monroe in 2007 and headed to Georgia as director of football operations from 2008-11. From there, he became the assistant and associate director of internal operations from 2012-14 and served as the Millsaps College athletic director from 2014-15.

Brooks then spent a year as the Louisiana-Monroe’s deputy AD from 2015-16. He returned to Georgia in 2016 as executive associate athletic director. He also got his master’s degree from UGA.

Under Brooks’ watch, the Georgia football team won its first national championship in nearly 40 years in 2021, defeating Alabama 33-18 in the College Football Playoff title game in January. In fact, just last week, a record five players from the Bulldogs’ defense were selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft — including No. 1 overall pick Travon Walker. In total, 15 Bulldogs went in the draft, which set an NFL Draft record.

But in addition to all the titles Brooks has held during his career, he might be able to add “javelin thrower” to his resume, as well.
