Georgia baseball strikes out 13 in upset of No. 18 Tennessee
Georgia baseball turned in a dominant pitching performance Saturday to pull off a 3-1 upset of Tennessee. The Bulldogs struck out a total of 13 batters in what was a big-time defensive outing to snap a nine-game winning streak for the No. 18 Volunteers.
Jarvis Evans and Chandler Marsh combined for all 13 of the strikeouts. Evans entered the game in the first inning after starter Charlie Goldstein exited with a hamstring injury. They pitched a total of eight innings with Marsh relieving Evans in the middle of the sixth and going on to strike out six, including the final strikeout of the game to end the eighth inning. You can view that moment below.
Georgia allowed just eight hits on the day as well. Jarvis gave up the lone run on the day after walking a batter with the bases loaded in the sixth inning, after which Marsh came into the game. Jarvis finished with the win to improve his season record to 2-0, while Leighton Finley pitched the final inning to record the save.
The Bulldogs scored all three of their runs over the first five innings, including a solo home run from Charlie Condon in the fifth. It was his 20th of the season as he leads the team in that category. Georgia finished the day with 10 hits as a team, with five players tying for the team lead with two apiece. Connor Tate led all players with two RBI on the afternoon.

Georgia also stole six bases in the contest. That included four from Mason LaPlante to tie a program record. All of the action occurred in front of a crowd of 3,852, the highest attendance this season.
The defensive outing was a good sign for the Bulldogs after they allowed a combined 29 runs in their three games prior. That included a 12-3 loss for Georgia against Tennessee in the series opener on Friday. Saturday’s victory evened the series at 1-1 and will make a Sunday matchup set for 1 p.m. ET in Athens the deciding game between the Bulldogs and Volunteers.
With the win, Georgia improved its season record to 26-21 (9-14 SEC). Tennessee fell to 32-15 (12-11). The Bulldogs currently rank 11th in the conference standings but will hope to move up with a strong close to the season. After the series against Tennessee, they next have a game against South Carolina-Upstate on Wednesday.
