Although Georgia baseball entered the ninth inning trailing 7-5 to Ole Miss, Ben Anderson refused to let the Bulldogs go out quietly. The center fielder delivered big plays on both offense and defense to keep his team in the game.

Firstly, Anderson hit a two-run homer in the top of the inning to tie the game and force the Rebels offense to score in the bottom of the inning. Then he came through on defense with an impressive catch against the wall to rob Ole Miss of a walk-off home run.

You can view both plays below.

Ultimately, the late-game heroics from Ben Anderson did not lead to a Georgia win. The Rebels later scored the winning run on an RBI single from TJ McCants to bring in Judd Utermark to notch an 8-7 victory. But despite the result, Anderson’s play down the stretch was impressive nonetheless.

The home run was just the third all season for Anderson. He finished 2-for-4 at the plate and also had a double on the day. Charlie Condon also finished with a home run for the Bulldogs.

Georgia scored six of its seven runs over the final three innings as it attempted to come back after trailing 5-1 entering the seventh inning. Ole Miss jumped out to a 2-0 advantage after a two-run homer of its own from Ethan Lege and never trailed on its way to the win. The late run from the Bulldogs certainly made things interesting toward the end, though.’

Liam Sullivan got the start at pitcher for Georgia and gave up four runs, including two home runs, over four innings of work before being pulled. Leighton Finely, who closed the game and gave up the winning run, picked up the loss. Jack Dougherty got the win for the Rebels as he pitched the final three innings, though he was on the mound for five of the Bulldogs’ seven runs scored.

With the loss, Georgia also dropped the series to Ole Miss after the teams split the first two games. It brings the Bulldogs’ season record to 24-20 (8-13 SEC). They’ll hope to get back on track with a midweek game against Kennesaw State on Tuesday before a home series against No. 24 Tennessee this weekend.

The Rebels improved to 23-21 (5-16) and next face Arkansas-Little Rock on Tuesday before beginning a series at Missouri on Thursday,
