Georgia coordinator dishes on several Bulldogs offensive standouts
The Georgia Bulldogs have immense talent on the offensive side of the ball. Prior to the 2021 season, Bulldogs defensive coordinator Dan Lanning dished on several of the offensive standouts the team features.
First, Lanning mentioned it’s a good thing that Georgia’s offense is so difficult to defend. He believes it’s helping them prepare for their opening weekend matchup against the Clemson Tigers.
“They’re doing a lot of things that stress us defensively, which is good because I’d rather see that now than when we get to the season,” Lanning said, per DawgNation.com.
In addition, Lanning points out returning starting quarterback JT Daniel’s ability to read defenses as a strength for Georgia’s offense. Still, the opportunity to go up against Daniels and the rest of the Bulldogs’ playmakers is invaluable.
“You know JT (Daniels) is obviously an operator. They have a lot of talent in the backfield there, and I am excited to see some young guys step up on the other side of the ball and stretch us vertically, really attack a lot of pieces that are tough for us on defense. So, it’s a good group to go against,” Lanning said.
While the amount of offensive weapons Georgia possesses may create headaches for Lanning in practice, it excites Bulldogs fans everywhere.
“All of those tight ends and wideouts that we have obviously create a lot of issues,” Lanning said. “We’ve got a lot of big bodies that can go down, catch the ball in space. The biggest thing is they make contested catches and they run really, really well.”

Darnell Washington getting Lanning’s attention
Speaking of tight ends, it’s obvious that the 6-foot-7 Darnell Washington has Lanning’s attention. He singled out the talented tight end throughout heaping praise on the Georgia offense.
“For Darnell being a guy that’s over 270 (pounds) and able to move like he moves, it’s pretty impressive with a big catch radius,” the Georgia defensive coordinator said. “Even when you’re playing tight coverage, that might not be enough. So that’s something we’re battling every day, and it’s good for us to go against those guys in practice.”
While Lanning was complementary to his team’s offense, he rememberes that his defense has won battles. He believes Georgia is achieving their goal of creating a competitive atmosphere at camp.
“One of the goals coming into fall camp was to create that competitive atmosphere between both sides of the ball,” Lanning explained. “They have certainly won some and we have certainly won some.”
During a conversation with Marty Smith and Ryan McGee, Georgia’s quarterback echoed Lanning’s observations. When speaking on his excitement for 2021, Daniels summed it up with a simple statement that should rile up all of Athens.
“We have the talent to do whatever we want,” Daniels stated.
