Georgia defense loses linebacker to injury
The Georgia Bulldogs have lost linebacker Rian Davis for the season to injury according to DawgsHQ.
Davis suffered a leg injury and is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the 2021 season.
Rian Davis has served primarily in a rotational role behind starters Nakobe Dean, Quay Walker, and Channing Tindall. With Davis down, freshmen Jamon Dumas-Johnson and Smael Mondon, will likely step into bigger roles.
Davis saw action in Georgia’s week two win over UAB, recording one tackle against the Blazers.
Rian Davis is in his third season at Georgia. Over the last two seasons, Davis appeared in eight total games, primarily contributing on special teams for the Bulldogs. Last season, Davis played in seven games and recorded a tackle against Missouri.
Georgia offensive injury updates
Georgia did receive positive news on the injury front this week as wide receiver Kearis Jackson could be ready to play on Saturday, per Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
Jackson underwent arthroscopic knee surgery over the summer and had been limited to action on punt returns as he continues to regain confidence in his knee and to ensure a complete recovery.
Last season, Jackson led Georgia in receptions with 36, accumulating 514 yards and three touchdowns on the season.

Unfortunately, the Bulldogs have been injury-stricken at the pass-catching position. In addition to Jackson, wide receivers George Pickens and Dominick Blaylock are both recovering from ACL surgeries.
Georgia starting quarterback JT Daniels continues to recover from an oblique strain that forced him to miss Georgia’s win over UAB. In relief, Stetson Bennett stepped in and went 10-for-12 for 288 yards and five touchdowns, winning SEC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
Smart offered an update on Daniels earlier in the week.
“JT (Daniels) feels much better he’s continued to improve,” Smart told reporters on Tuesday. “He’s better now than he was Saturday. I don’t know that he’s 100% but he’s certainly getting closer to that. Stetson (Bennett) is repping, JT is repping and Carson’s (Beck) repping”
Smart also revealed Bennett is dealing with an injury of his own
“Stetson’s actually got some lower back issues that he strained some stuff but he’s able to go but I don’t know if he’s 100%,” Smart said. “He’s been dinged up since Monday morning but he went out and practiced as well. So they’re all three practicing. I think Carson’s 100% healthy but the other two are still pushing back.”
Georgia will open up conference play on Saturday against South Carolina.
