Georgia freshman defensive lineman Jordan Hall chose the Bulldogs over Florida last December, choosing to go out-of-state rather than stay home and play for the Gators.

Hall recently appeared on the Real Talk Georgia podcast and explained that decision. It’s safe to say the Jacksonville, Florida native didn’t hold back.

“Really Florida talked about a lot of nothing… Georgia talked about a lot of something,” Jordan Hall said. “They’re going to put people in the league. Florida ain’t put a d-lineman in the league since Taven Bryan. And he’s terrible. So hey, I’m going to Georgia. And that’s really what it was.”

The 6-foot-4 freshman Hall was ranked as the No. 25 overall player in the country and a five-star recruit for the class of 2023, according to the On3 Industry rankings. On3 ranked him as the No. 13 overall player in the country, the No. 2 defensive lineman in the country and the No. 2 player from Florida.

While Hall claimed that Florida struggles to put defensive linemen in the NFL, that’s factually inaccurate. The Gators have regularly had defensive linemen drafted, including this past season when Gervon Dexter was drafted in the second round, No. 53 overall, by the Bears.

Florida has had a defensive lineman drafted in each of the past 12 years, starting in 2012.

Hall previously told On3’s Chad Simmons that getting the opportunity to play for Kirby Smart played a big role in his decision.

“Coach Smart is doing a great job with coaching the guys up and making sure everything was straight, so I really respect coach Smart for that,” Hall said. “The go-to-work mentality really fit me. They keep everything really punctual for their players. Everything is work, earn what you get and keep working. It’s like a hierarchy of work, honestly, at Georgia, and there’s a balance with it. It’s not too much football, but not too little football… honestly, Georgia I feel like is the perfect balance for me.”

Anonymous SEC coach says Georgia has the ‘most complete’ roster in the SEC

Georgia has won two consecutive national titles, and the Bulldogs don’t appear ready to slow down anytime soon.

Athlon Sports has released its preview magazine for 2023, breaking down each and every FBS team ahead of the season. Athlon spoke with coaches anonymously as part of its preview, including an SEC coach for insight on the Bulldogs. It’s no surprise the anonymous SEC coach is high on Kirby Smart’s club.

“They’re the default pick for the College Football Playoff, the national title game and the conference,” one (likely SEC) coach boldly declared to Athlon, noting that Georgia has the perhaps the best roster again this year. “Absent quarterback, they have the most complete roster in the league and probably the entire country,” he added.

That quarterback spot is a question mark after elder statesman Stetson Bennett finally departed. However, despite the change under center and at offensive coordinator, this coach is confident Georgia will be just fine.

“So if you settle on a QB, and let’s say it’s (Carson) Beck, (Mike) Bobo is going to do exactly the same thing as (Todd) Monken — tell the kid he has to be just efficient enough to move the ball around and stay out of negative plays.”
