LOOK: Georgia stealing Ohio State tradition ahead of College Football Playoff matchup vs. Michigan
Georgia’s Spike Squad would agree: imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
The Spike Squad, a student-led fan group at the University of Georgia, is preparing for the Bulldogs’ upcoming Orange Bowl matchup with the No. 2 Michigan Wolverines by stealing an Ohio State Buckeyes’ tradition. The Spike Squad has omitted the letter “M” from the alphabet, not recognizing the letter represented in the Michigan Wolverines’ block logo, and are crossing out any mentions of the letter they can find. The tradition originated with Ohio State, which does the same leading up to its annual rivalry against the University of Michigan.
The Spike Squad posted pictures on its Instagram (@ugaspikesquad) Thursday which shows two student facilities at the University of Georgia — the Zell B. Miller Learning Center and the Ramsey Student Center — with the letter “M” crossed out in red tape. In the caption of the photo, the Georgia students wrote, “the enemy of my enemy is my friend,” and “BEAT MICHIGAN!” Of course, the caption, like the photos, left out any mentions of the letter “M,” replacing it instead with a cross emoji.
The Georgia Spike Squad has followed Ohio State’s lead on Twitter, too. The Bulldogs fans started by tweeting on Monday in a similar fashion, replacing all the M’s with X’s, and continue to do so throughout the week.
Joel Klatt believes Georgia could make a big switch vs Michigan
After the drubbing Alabama handed Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, Bulldogs fans everywhere had change on their mind. Evidently, Joel Klatt is in agreement — Georgia got a reality check with their first loss of the season.
Earlier this week on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Klatt joined the namesake to discuss Georgia’s mentality going into the College Football Playoff.

“Michigan’s playing as well as anybody out there. They’re playing balanced football. The spread’s about where I thought it would be. Georgia is clearly favored. If I had to make a straight up pick, I’d probably pick Georgia,” revealed Klatt, prior to getting into Georgia’s issues. “Stetson Bennett, and it’s not just him — it’s just the nature and philosophy in which they go about trying to win football games.
“They were lulled to sleep by a schedule that they thought was going to be tough that ended up not being very tough. .. The schedule that they thought was going to test them, and boy our defense is incredible, maybe the best ever. It wasn’t actually tested to that point. So they were lulled to sleep as if they did not need the 2020, end of the season version of their offense under J.T. Daniels. Then all of a sudden they get up against Bama. It’s like oh wait, that’s right, we did learn that lesson last year. And apparently we went away from it.”
Both Klatt and Cowherd agreed — Georgia should move on from Bennett in the College Football Playoff and instead favor J.T. Daniels, the season-opening starting quarterback.
