Georgia DB Jake Pope plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal
Georgia DB Jake Pope plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Hayes Fawcett.
Pope just finished his first season with the Bulldogs after spending the first two seasons of his collegiate career at Alabama. He was one of several players to transfer from Tuscaloosa last offseason after the retirement of Nick Saban.
Pope redshirted in his first year with ‘Bama but has since played in double-digit games over the past two seasons with the Tide and ‘Dawgs but with no statistics recorded. He has seen snaps on defense while in college but has also taken reps on special teams.
Pope did get Kirby Smart’s attention, for the wrong reason, though, during his lone year in Athens.
Pope played high school football at Buford. He was the No. 315 overall recruit there as a four-star prospect in the 2022 cycle. That’s according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also rated as the No. 31 safety in the class and a Top-30 player out of the state of Georgia.
