Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter has been ruled out for the remainder of Saturday’s game against Missouri with injury, SEC Network’s Cole Cubelic reported on the broadcast.

Carter left the game in the first half after he appeared to roll his ankle after being hit by a Tigers offensive player. It is a huge loss for a Bulldogs team that was already facing a 16-6 deficit at halftime.

Carter recorded one tackle in the game prior to his exit. He is in his third year with Georgia and earned second team All-SEC honors according to coaches last year after recording 33 quarterback pressures, three sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss. So far this season, he has recorded five total tackles to go along with one pass defended.

With the injury to Jalen Carter, look for Georgia to rely more on Nazir Stackhouse, Warren Brinson and Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins on the defensive line.

Kirby Smart weighs in on lackluster first half against Missouri

Things certainly haven’t gone the way that Kirby Smart or anyone else expected in Saturday’s first half between Georgia and Missouri. As the two teams headed into halftime in Columbia, the Tigers surprisingly held a 16-6 advantage.

The Bulldogs coach stopped by for an interview with SEC Network at the break, where he offered a few thoughts on what his team can do to turn things around in the second.

“We’ve got to get some field position,” Smart said. “We started off in a hole on field position. We turned the ball over. They’ve got all the momentum and we haven’t been able to reverse that. We’ve got to reverse the momentum and we’ve gotta get some momentum back.”

Georgia’s offense has had a tough time getting going early. The Bulldogs have yet to score a touchdown so far, and are averaging just three yards per carry. Quarterback Stetson Bennett has completed less than 50% of his passes as the Tigers have won the battle up front.

“They’re knocking us off the ball,” Smart said. “They’re whipping us up front. You can’t win in the SEC unless you win the line of scrimmage.”

If Missouri is ultimately able to hang on for the win, it would be the most shocking upset of this season so far. Georgia is currently ranked No. 1 in the country and coming off of a national championship victory last season.
