Georgia freshman edge rusher Damon Wilson plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. On3’s Hayes Fawcett reported the news.

Wilson contributed to the Georgia defense that was still among some of the best in the country in 2024. Wilson had 22 total tackles, 13 of which were solo, and three sacks in 2024. Wilson also had two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Wilson played in seven games during the 2023 season, accounting for three total tackles and half a sack.

As a recruit, Wilson was a five-star prospect ranked No. 20 in the 2023 class according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 3 EDGE and No. 5 recruit from Florida in the 2023 cycle.

Georgia Bulldogs in 2024

The Bulldogs posted yet another impressive season under coach Kirby Smart. Georgia went 10-2 in the regular season before then defeating Texas in the SEC title game. That not only earned the Bulldogs a spot in the College Football Playoff, but also earned them a bye in it.

Georgia traveled to New Orleans for the quarterfinal round, where it faced Notre Dame. Despite a deadlocked 0-0 first quarter, Georgia — without quarterback Carson Beck — could not make the plays to keep up with Notre Dame and lost, 23-10.

Following that loss, SEC Network Radio host Paul Finebaum had some strong thoughts on the Bulldogs going forward. Finebaum believes the days of people fearing Georgia football are over.

“Somebody asked me earlier, ‘Hey, is this the end of Georgia?’ It’s not the end of Georgia,” Finebaum said on The Matt Barrie Show. “But just like we said earlier this year, nobody’s afraid of Alabama anymore. Nobody’s afraid of Georgia anymore. That’s how quickly it goes, but the portal does it to everyone. But there are a lot of questions.”
