Georgia fans welcome coveted 5-star Mykel Williams
Columbus (Ga.) Hardaway five-star defensive lineman and USC commit Mykel Williams is back in Athens, Ga., to watch Georgia for the second time in three weeks.
The No. 5 overall recruit in the country is a top target for the Bulldogs staff. And the fans want him in Red and Black as well.
Fans in attendance during Saturday morning’s College Gameday in Georgia held up five posters that spelled out Williams’ first name.
College Gameday also showed a “We Want Arch” poster during the second hour of the broadcast.
Arch Manning, the No. 1 recruit in the 2023 On3 Top 100, visited Georgia on Sept. 18 and fans spelled out “We Want Arch” in full-body paint.
Chad Simmons says Mykel Williams may flip from USC

Georgia, who On3’s Chad Simmons said finished No. 2 to the Trojans for the five-star, have been pushing even harder for Williams since then.
Alabama and Florida have also been in the mix, but in-state Georgia has been leading the pack of suitors after Williams.
Simmons said he thinks the biggest aspect of Williams decision will be who is leading the USC program come next season.
“Really, it just comes down to the coaching staff,” Simmons said. “Who’s the next head coach? Do they retain Donte Williams? Do they retain the defensive line coach Vic So’oto? I think those are key things Mykel is waiting for. He remains committed to USC right now. A lot of buzz around here about the in-state Georgia Bulldogs. But again, Mykel is saying all the right things about USC. His plan is to wait and see. But a visit to Georgia this past weekend. He’ll return in two weeks and then keep an eye on Alabama and Florida as well.”
