No college football program has won three consecutive national titles since Minnesota in the 1930s. Georgia has a chance to change that this season after winning back-to-back national titles the past two years.

Obviously doing so won’t be easy, but Bruce Feldman of The Athletic believes Georgia has a real shot to three-peat. Yes, there are questions the Bulldogs must answer, but other programs around the country have plenty of questions, too.

“I think they’re well-positioned to do it again. I think what helps them is you look at who’s there biggest competitor in the SEC? It’s been Alabama,” Feldman said Thursday afternoon on The Paul Finebaum Show. “You not only have to replace a really good quarterback, you have to replace a Heisman-winning trophy quarterback, the best defensive player they’ve had there in years. You have two new coordinators. You still have a big quarterback question mark coming out of there, whether Tyler Buchner is the guy or not.”

As Feldman points out, Bryce Young is gone from Alabama after being the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft. On the defensive side of the ball, Will Anderson is also gone after putting together an incredible career for the Crimson Tide, before being drafted No. 3 overall this past season.

Alabama also has a new offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator and has yet to name a starting quarterback for 2023.

Feldman added that elsewhere in the SEC, he’s not sure anyone else is ready to challenge Georgia, either.

“Your other arch-rival — Florida is in total rebuild mode,” Feldman said. “I think Tennessee’s good, but we’ll see if Joe Milton can step in… and they have to replace receivers.”

Florida is coming off of a 6-7 season in Year 1 under Billy Napier, while Tennessee must replace quarterback Hendon Hooker, as well as its top two receivers in Jalin Hyatt and Cedric Tillman.

Feldman also spoke about the possibility of someone from outside the SEC challenging the Bulldogs. He believes it’s possible but added that there are question marks for most of the top programs in the country.

“You look at the team that outside of the SEC is typically the most talented of the super powers, and that’s Ohio State. But they’ve got to replace CJ Stroud at quarterback. And that’s a big if. And they weren’t that good on defense, so they’ve got to get better at that. I think Michigan, this will be Jim Harbaugh’s most talented team he’s had, but they got pushed around by Georgia two years ago in the playoff. They got beat by a TCU squad that was good but obviously lightyears away from being competitive in the national title game,” Feldman said. “So like I said, this sets up really well for Georgia. They have question marks, too, but I think we’ve got a really interesting season, because one of the few places where almost all of the star quarterbacks came back is in the PAC 12. But no PAC 12 school has gotten within a sniff of the playoff in a long time.”
