Georgia forward RJ Godfrey enters Transfer Portal for second time

Georgia Bulldogs small forward RJ Godfrey has entered the Transfer Portal, On3 has learned. This is his second time in the Transfer Portal after previously playing for the Clemson Tigers.

Godfrey was a three-star recruit coming out of North Gwinnett in the Class of 2022, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He was the 186th-ranked player nationally and the 49th-ranked small forward in that recruiting cycle. That year, he was also the sixth-ranked player from the state of Georgia.

Coming out of high school, Godfrey had several SEC offers, including from Georgia, Auburn, and Ole Miss. However, he initially chose to attend Clemson out of the ACC ahead of other options. He also had several mid-major offers coming out of high school.

In the 2024-25 season with Georgia, Godfrey started 33 games for the Bulldogs and averaged 19.4 minutes per game for the season. He had 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game. For the season, he shot 53.2 percent from the field and 61.1 percent from the free-throw line. Notably he was 0-11 shooting from beyond the three-point line. On the defensive end, Godfrey averaged 0.6 blocks and 0.6 steals per game.

Prior to his time in Athens, Godfrey appeared in 69 games for Clemson and made one start. He averaged 12.6 minutes per game with the Tigers and put up 4.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.6 assists per game during his two seasons with Clemson.

At Georgia, RJ Godfrey played for Mike White. It was White’s third season as the head coach at Georgia and the first in which he led the Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament. On a record of 20-13 and 8-10 in SEC play, Georgia made the NCAA Tournament as a nine-seed. They’d lose in the first round to Gonzaga in what was a 21-point loss. Previously, at Clemson, he had been part of a team that made a run all the way to the Elite Eight under Brad Brownell.

The Transfer Portal opened amid the NCAA Tournament for college basketball and ahead of the Sweet Sixteen. While that didn’t have a direct impact on Georgia this season, given when the Bulldogs run in March ended, it has become a point of concern for many coaches.
