Georgia guard De'Shayne Montgomery enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Georgia guard De’Shayne Montgomery has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, per On3’s Joe Tipton. Montgomery only spent one season with the Bulldogs after transferring to the program from Mount St. Mary’s last offseason.
Montgomery missed Georgia’s first 10 games of the season due to academic ineligibility. In total, he made 17 appearances for the Bulldogs. He averaged 6.5 points and 2.1 rebounds in 15.7 minutes per game. He shot 40.9% from the field and 25.0% from beyond the arc.
Montgomery had his best performance of the season in Georgia’s blowout win over Charleston Southern on Dec. 22. In the victory, Montgomery tallied a season-high 22 points while shooting 9-13 from the floor.
In his lone season at Mount St. Mary’s, Montgomery played in 32 games and made 10 starts. He averaged 13.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 27.8 minutes per game while shooting 53.8% from the field and 41.2% from 3-point range.
Despite Montgomery’s early troubles at Georgia, Bulldogs head coach Mike White seemed to enjoy coaching him. White spoke highly of the 6-foot-5 sophomore before his season debut.
“He’s going to play hard as heck, and he’s going to play with joy. That’s how he approaches every day,” White said. “He’s fun to coach. He’s going to be a good addition to our team. He’s a little bit different than our other backcourt guys. He complements them well. We’ve got to get him adjusted to this level, of course. To playing with these guys, it’s all going to be new to him, but it’s exciting at the same time.”
