Report: Georgia guard Terry Roberts to stay in 2023 NBA Draft
Georgia guard Terry Roberts will not return to the Bulldogs for his extra year, CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein reported. He is staying in the 2023 NBA Draft.
Roberts, who transferred from Bradley, had one more year if he wanted it thanks to the blanket COVID-19 waiver. He put up impressive numbers in his first season with Georgia, averaging 14.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game under first-year coach Mike White.
Roberts declared for the draft March 20, announcing the news in an Instagram post.
“First and foremost, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to play the game of basketball at the highest level. Without him, none of this is possible! After reflection, much prayer and transparent discussion with my family and team, I have decided it is in my best interest to declare for the 2023 NBA Draft,” Roberts wrote. “I want to thank the entire foundation of this journey, my former coaches at Believe Prep Academy, FSW (Florida SouthWestern), Bradley and the Georgia coaching staff for pushing me to become a better man as well as a student athlete day in and day out. Lastly I want to give a big thank you to Dawg Nation, my teammates and the fans! Thank you for the unwavering support, through trial and era, we did something special!”
Roberts started his career at Florida SouthWestern at the JUCO level before arriving at Bradley. With the Braves, he became a first team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection and won the MVC Newcomer of the Year award. He then entered the transfer portal and ended up at Georgia as White worked to revamp the roster.

Although Roberts isn’t planning on returning to Georgia, the Bulldogs got some good news Tuesday after Rothstein also reported Russell Tchewa is planning to withdraw from the draft and play at UGA next season. He spent last season at USF, averaging 11.1 points and 8.6 rebounds per game before entering the portal and committing to Georgia.
There are plenty of NBA Draft decisions still to be made ahead of the withdrawal deadline, which is coming up June 12 at 5 p.m. ET. The 2023 NBA Draft is set to take place on Thursday, June 22, 2023, in Brooklyn at Barclays Center. Round 1 of the draft will be announced by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, while Deputy Commissioner Mark Tatum is expected to handle the second round of picks.
