Georgia has hired Alabama cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson as its co-defensive coordinator and safeties coach, the school announced on Saturday.

Robinson is heading to the Bulldogs just days after Nick Saban retired as Alabama’s head coach.

“We are pleased to announce Travaris Robinson as our new Co-Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said in a statement, per DawgsHQ. “Travaris has 17 years of college coaching experience, including over a decade in the SEC mentoring some of the top defenses statistically in the NCAA.”

Robinson is being hired to replace Will Muschamp, who is moving into an analyst role at Georgia.

“We are excited about the addition of Coach Robinson and his family to the University of Georgia, while having the opportunity to retain Coach Muschamp and his family on our staff,” Smart said in the statement, per DawgsHQ.

Travaris Robinson has coached all over the SEC, spending time at Florida, Auburn, South Carolina and most recently Alabama. Robinson also coached at Texas Tech and Miami.

Robinson spent two seasons at Alabama, helping the Crimson Tide win the SEC and reach the College Football Playoff this past season. He is known as an excellent recruiter.

He will try to help Georgia win its third national title in four seasons in 2024. The Bulldogs are expected to once again have one of the best teams in the nation this coming season.

Analyzing why Georgia remains the most talented team heading into 2024

Travaris Robinson will have plenty of talent to work with at Georgia in 2024.

In fact, On3‘s Jesse Simonton has them ranked No. 1 in his way-too-early top 25.

Simonton joined Andy Staples on his podcast Tuesday to explain his reasoning. He argued that Georgia still has the most talented team in the country, beginning with returning quarterback Carson Beck.

“The key for Georgia is when you look at these 10 teams in the top 10 that I have, they probably feel the best about their quarterback,” Simonton said. “Texas likes Quinn Ewers. Jaxson Dart at Ole Miss. Drew Allar, Penn State. But I think Carson Beck, him coming back and announcing that decision to return for 2024.

“I’m here at the coaches convention. Folks still believe that’s the best roster 1-85. They believe based on some of the guys that entered the portal and some of the guys that didn’t that Georgia did a really good job when push came to shove of who they were able to keep in Athens for next season.”
