Georgia injury updates: Kirby Smart provides update on spring game departures

Kirby Smart provided the latest on injuries and spring game departures for Georgia following Saturday’s event. Cole Speer was the main concern as the wide receiver suffered a lower body injury.
In the spring, it’s all about development and health and making sure you’re good to go for the summer. Of course, that leads into being ready for the regular season.
As far as Smart knows, none of the injuries were significant. But, they’ll all certainly require some attention.
“Not sure if it’s high ankle or lower leg,” Smart said. “I’m not sure, they said they’re gonna do x-rays. He’s got an ankle, Q’s got an ankle, and Noah Thomas has an AC sprain. But I don’t know that any of them were significant.”
Speer is expected to have a larger role in 2025 after playing 14 games last season, his third with the Bulldogs. As far as what’s next for “G-Day,” the Georgia spring showcase, Smart provided the latest on the spring game.

“I don’t know,” Smart said. “I’d say it’s year by year. It probably has more to do with my team, the health of our team, the number of players in college football. I mean, we as coaches don’t control the numbers we have, so if we don’t have enough numbers we won’t be able to have the game. I mean, I think it’s a great tradition, but it’s more about what does our team need than just what Athens needs.”
The biggest takeaways from Georgia’s spring game had to be in the quarterback department. Gunner Stockton is slated to take over for Smart’s team this fall.
“Confidence, understanding the offense, knowing when to take a shot, which he didn’t do a great job today,” Smart said, evaluating his quarterback. “He had a couple times where he could have thrown the ball or checked it down. He took shots that he probably didn’t have to. But he’s done a really good job with his feet, his legs. He made plays with his legs today, and I thought Ryan did too. They’re both good athletes that can extend plays.”
After winning the SEC last season and grabbing the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff, Smart and Georgia look to turn the page and get as hea;thy as possible for 2025. After last year’s disappointing exit in the quarterfinals, this year’s expected to be another where Georgia factors heavily in the national title discussion.Georgia injury updates: Kirby Smart provides update on spring game departures
