Georgia football players Smael Mondon and Bo Hughley were arrested earlier this week in Athens-Clarke County, according to DawgsHQ.

The redshirt freshman offensive lineman Hughley was arrested Tuesday evening, while the senior linebacker Mondon was arrested Wednesday night.

Both players were charged with reckless driving, DawgsHQ reports. In addition to reckless driving, Hughley was charged with a failure to maintain lane/improper driving on road. Mondon was also charged with racing on highways/streets, according to the report. The charges are all considered to be misdemeanors.

The arrests of Smael Mondon and Bo Hughley are the latest for a Georgia program that has had two other players arrested this offseason in running back Trevor Etienne and receiver Sacovie White. Etienne was charged with DUI, but his charges were dropped earlier this week after a plea deal.

Smael Mondon is one of the top linebackers in the SEC after racking up 68 tackles for Georgia in 2023, which ranked second on the Bulldogs team. He was named a second-team All-SEC selection after appearing in 13 games, with 11 starts.

Mondon was ranked as a five-star recruiting coming out of high school, according to the On3 Industry rankings.

Hughley was ranked as a four-star recruit in the class of 2023, per the On3 Industry rankings. He redshirted last season.

Georgia has won two of the past three national titles under head coach Kirby Smart. The Bulldogs also had an excellent season in 2023, finishing with a 13-1 record.

Smart’s team will face Clemson to open the 2024 season. The game will be played in Atlanta on Saturday, Aug. 31.

More on Trevor Etienne’s DUI charges from March being dropped after plea deal

Georgia running back Trevor Etienne had his DUI charges dropped earlier this week after a plea deal. Etienne received 12 months of probation and an $852 fine, as well as a $45 per month supervision fee. He had to complete a substance abuse evaluation, 40 hours of community service, an alcohol risk reduction program and is subject to random drug and alcohol screenings.

“We’re pleased the evidence didn’t support the DUI charge to begin with,” attorney Kim Stephens, who represented Etienne, told the Athens Banner-Herald. “We’re pleased the Solicitor’s Office saw that and agreed to something that wasn’t a DUI.”

Etienne, who transferred to Georgia this offseason, previously admitted to drinking alcohol earlier on the night he was out, but refused field sobriety and blood alcohol tests. The judge was told that there was minimal evidence of intoxication to go forward with that charge.

While speaking to members of the media after the spring game, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart praised Etienne for his talent work ethic, and how he’s handled football since his DUI arrest.

“He’s a good back,” Smart said. “He’s explosive, he’s quick in and out of the hole. He’s different than what we’ve had. I think the [D’Andre] Swift analogy is good. [James] Cook analogy is good.”
