Stetson Bennett shares postgame thoughts following victory over Oregon
The No. 2 team in the nation, the Georgia Bulldogs, just dismantled the No. 11 Oregon Ducks 49-3. The Bulldogs’ defense was in mid-season form, shutting down Oregon’s offense. But the best player on the field today was arguably not on Georgia’s defense but likely their leader, quarterback Stetson Bennett. And after the game, Bennett gave his thoughts on the Bulldogs’ dominating victory.
“First of all, we had a great scheme called by Monk (Todd Monken). I had a ton of time, and the guys made plays all day,” said Bennett when asked about his success passing the ball.
Bennett put together arguably the best performance of his collegiate career. The national championship-winning quarterback completed 25 of his 31 passing attempts for 368 yards and two touchdowns. And he found opportunities all over the field in the passing game, completing passes to 10 different receivers. For Bennett, it wasn’t just about the offense; his success also had a little to do with the defense he was facing. As he explained, his familiarity with Oregon head coach Dan Lanning was also at play on Saturday.

“With coach (Lanning) going over here to Oregon, we had an idea of what kind of scheme they were going to run. And the rest of the guys were awesome. Just some of the timing routes that maybe we didn’t have last year helped immensely,” he revealed.

The teachings that Smart is handing out to his players are rubbing off on Bennett. When given the opportunity to be boisterous about the Bulldogs’ abilities, like his coach in his post-game interview, Bennett stayed humble in his response to how good their team could be this season.
“You know, I think we play Samford next week. So hopefully beat Samford next week.”
Bennett and Smart are taking it one game at a time. So while everybody else is looking towards their future matchups and possibly a berth in the College Football Playoff for the second year in a row; the only thing that the Bulldogs are looking forward to is next week’s opponent.
The Bulldogs put on an impressive display with a balanced offense and their patented daunting defense. Bennett and the Bulldogs might be taking the high road and not patting themselves on the back after an impressive Week 1 victory. But that doesn’t mean the fans can’t or shouldn’t. In fact, if this game is any indication of what is to be expected from the Bulldogs, fans should expect an opportunity to become the first-ever back-to-back College Football Playoff champs.
