Georgia signs Miami transfer DL Josh Horton, Army LB Elo Modozie, Illinois RB Josh McCray

Georgia has landed a trio of signees out of the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos has learned. Miami defensive lineman Josh Horton, Army linebacker Elo Modozie and Illinois running back Josh McCray have all inked with the Bulldogs.
Each has shown some promise in their young careers. McCray, in particular, is coming off a showing that earned him MVP honors in the Cheez-It Citrus Bowl.
His versatility and playmaking ability were on full display in the postseason following the 2024 campaign. McCray produced an excellent game in a Cheez-It Citrus Bowl win over South Carolina, rushing for 114 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries.
After racking up 761 yards and four touchdowns in his first three years on campus, McCray nearly produced that in one season alone in 2024. That had to have caught Georgia’s eye. He finished last season with 609 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns.
The Citrus Bowl game was McCray’s first 100-yard game of the 2024 season, though it wasn’t the first of his career. He actually had a very productive freshman season before having a quiet next two years.

As a freshman in 2021, Josh McCray logged two 100-plus yard games. He ran for 156 yards on 24 carries in a road game at Purdue, as well as 142 yards on 24 carries in a road win over Penn State. That showed the kind of ability he had.
McCray has also had a game with three touchdowns, doing so against Michigan State this season. That made him the first Illini running back to rush for three scores in a game since Jason Ford on Nov. 20, 2010.
Horton, meanwhile, appeared in eight games for the Hurricanes in 2024, but logged stats in three of those matchups. He totaled four tackles (two solo) as a freshman. He’ll have a bit more to do to prove Georgia made the right call picking him up out of the portal.
Modozie is coming off a bit of a breakout season with Army in 2024. He tallied 34 tackles, 8.0 tackles for a loss, 6.5 sacks, a pass defended and two blocked kicks. He showed some ability to rush the passer, something Georgia covets defensively.
