Brock Bowers makes Heisman Trophy case for Stetson Bennett
On Monday, Georgia quarterback Stetson Bennett was named one of four finalists for this year’s Heisman Trophy award, joining three other quarterbacks who have all had impressive seasons. Nobody has benefited from Bennett’s success more than tight end Brock Bowers, the teams leading receiver and Bennett’s top target, who made the case for why his quarterback should take home Heisman Trophy this year.
“I mean he showed up whenever we needed him, won every big game he could, and he has the stats to back it up. So why not?” Bowers asked.
Bennett has led the Bulldogs to their second consecutive undefeated regular season, a major catalyst and driving force in setting them up for a National Championship repeat. He’s thrown for 3,425 yards and 20 touchdown on the season, and is fresh off of his best performance of the year. In the SEC Championship game Bennett torched the LSU defense, throwing for 274 yards and four touchdown passes for the third time in his career, completing 79% of his throws in the process.
Bowers also spoke on Bennett’s impact beyond the stats and X’s and O’s, harping on his character leadership ability.

“He’s a great guy, just motivates and just keeps the team together,” Bowers said.
Bennett is the first Heisman Trophy finalist out of Georgia since running back Garrison Hearst in 1992, and if he takes home the trophy would be the Bulldog’s first winner since Herschel Walker in 1982. The one they call The Mailman has certainly delivered for Georgia, staying cool, calm, and collected during the process.
“He’s pretty even-keeled all the time, most of us are, and that’s kind of what you want out of a quarterback, never to high never too low,” Bowers said. He throws a pick, he’ll go right back out there and throw another deep bomb.”
Thankfully, Bennett’s completed a lot more deep throws than he’s thrown interceptions, only getting picked off six times this season. His demeanor and play has led to the Bulldog’s offense becoming one of the top units in the country, a perfect compliment to their top-ranked defense. Bennett’s already taken home the Bullsworth Trophy this season, which is awarded to the country’s outstanding player who began his career as a walk-on, and winning the Heisman would add another trophy to his case to go along with that one and last year’s National Championship.
