Georgia WR Jermaine Burton enters transfer portal

Georgia wide receiver Jermaine Burton has made the decision to enter the transfer portal, he tells On3.
The 6 foot, 200-pound receiver from Calabasas, California had 26 receptions for 497 yards and 5 TDs in the 2021 season.
He had this to say to Dawg Nation.
“This has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make in my life,” Burton said. “ I am very thankful and honored to have been able to play at the University of Georgia. I have made a lifetime of friendships and relationships that I will always cherish. I would like to thank all of dawg nation for all the support you have given me. Thank you to Coach Hankton for being a great coach and a great mentor for me. Thank you to Coach Smart for always pushing us to be our best and being an amazing head coach. Thank you to all of the UGA staff for always being there. To all my teammates I love all you. We have made some great memories. At this time I feel it is best for me to enter into the transfer portal.”

What is the transfer portal?
The NCAA Transfer Portal, which covers every NCAA sport at the Division I, II and III levels, is a private database with names of student-athletes who wish to transfer. It is not accessible to the public.
The process of entering the portal goes through a school’s compliance office. Once a player provides written notification of an intent to transfer, the office enters the player’s name in the database. The compliance office has 48 hours to comply with the player’s request.
Once a player’s name shows up in the portal, other schools can contact the player. Players can change their minds at any point and withdraw from the portal. However, once a player enters the portal, the current scholarship is no longer valid. In other words, if a player enters the portal but decides to stay, the school does not have to reoffer a scholarship.
