Georgia receiver NiTareon “Nitro” Tuggle was arrested Thursday morning by Athens-Clarke County Police on misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and speeding, according to UGASports.com. Tuggle, a rising sophomore, was booked into the Athens-Clarke County jail at approximately 1:56 am ET Thursday morning and released an hour later after posting a $20 cash bond, according to online records.

Tuggle’s driving arrest Thursday followed a string of similar car-related arrests the Bulldogs experienced over the last several offseasons. Last July, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution released a report revealing Georgia football players were involved in 24 driving-related incidents since January 2023.

The breakdown, which the AJC published after a new round of arrests last Summer, begins with the infamous fatal crash in January 2023. That incident killed offensive lineman Devin Willock and staffer Chandler LeCroy.

Last September, Bulldogs defensive back Daniel Harris was arrested for driving 106 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone. Harris also was charged with not wearing a seatbelt, operating an unregistered vehicle without a license plate, driving without proof of insurance, and having illegal window tint.

Nitro Tuggle reverses course after announcing plans to enter NCAA Transfer Portal

The 6-foot, 185-pound Tuggle flirted with entering the NCAA Transfer Portal following his first season in Athens, initially announcing plans to enter on Dec. 9, but ultimately reversed course a day later. As a true freshman last season, Tuggle appeared in six games and finished the 2024 season with three catches for 34 total yards, with two of those catches coming against Tennessee. Following that game, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart praised the talented young receiver.

“Nitro’s responded well. He’s worked hard,” Smart said. “He gained some confidence from that because he went against a really good defense and he did some nice things. But, I mean, he goes against a good defense every day in practice, and there’s times that he’s been frustrated. I mean, he would tell you openly that he wants to play. He wants to help. All freshmen want to play.”

Georgia cornerback Daylen Everette also raved about Tuggle’s abilities earlier this year. The defender found excitement in competing against Tuggle.

“He’s a real good player. He really is a fun player to compete against. He probably has one of the best releases, so that also helps me because I know what to look for and try to stay patient,” Everette said.  “Iron sharpening iron, he’s getting better, I’m getting better. It’s just fun to go against him. And I see him, he’s getting better, just like I said earlier. Everybody’s getting better.”

Tuggle played high school football for NorthWood (IN), where he was a four-star prospect. He was the No. 127 overall recruit and No. 23 wide receiver in the 2023 recruiting class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
