Glenn Schumann discusses how Georgia will replace linebacker production
Georgia had plenty of talent at linebacker last season, and that success translated to the 2022 NFL Draft. But with those pieces gone, the Bulldogs have to replace that production — and linebackers coach Glenn Schumann discussed that process in a post-practice press conference.
Quay Walker became a first-round pick of the Green Bay Packers and Nakobe Dean was seen as a first-round talent before injury concerns dropped him to the third round. Channing Tindall also became a third-round pick, meaning the Bulldogs’ top four tacklers in 2021 are gone to the NFL. Still, Schumann thinks training camp is an opportunity for others to step up.
So far, he said he’s seen some good things.
“You never ask somebody to replace somebody else,” Schumann said. “You ask them to be the best version of themselves. That’s what camps about. Going out there and every day, seeking excellence and challenging yourself to be that, be the best version of yourself. So in that room, I think we’re doing that every day. I’m thankful that we’re healthy and guys are pushing and they’re pushing each other.
“I think the one thing that the standard we set for those guys and the guys before them is that everybody’s competing together and it’s about the team and about each other and these guys embrace that, as well. I’m excited to see where we go.”

Glenn Schumann reveals keys to success for Georgia defense, impact of Will Muschamp
When Schumann was asked to identify players who are standing out following Tuesday’s practice, he respectfully declined. Instead, he went into detail about the importance of developing team chemistry early in the year and how the Bulldogs have been stressing that fact throughout fall camp.
“I understand the question there, but we had 19 players play over 200 snaps on defense last year,” Schumann said, in part. “So I do think the team talk on defense is extremely important. You’re looking for as many people that can play winning football as possible. The individuals that stand out a lot of times, they’re gonna be guys that you can already identify.
“But the team talk is extremely important this time of year just because our only way to play to standard on defense here is to get that. Get the team and everybody playing at a high level, because last time I checked there’s 11 guys on defense at once.
