The first month of the 2023 season has gone exactly how Georgia would have hoped for heading into the year. The Bulldogs did struggle South Carolina in Week 3, but they showed resilience in being able to comeback and dominate the second half on their way to a 24-14.

The two-time defending national champions are 4-0 and ranked No. 1 in the country.

On the latest episode of Always College Football with Greg McElroy, ESPN college football analyst Greg McElory broke down College Football Playoff contenders into different categories. At the top of the list were his teams that are locks to make the College Football Playoff.

McElory said Georgia was the only playoff lock after the first month of the season.

“I still have Georgia as the only team in the locks category for the playoffs,” McElroy said. “Partly because I still look at the SEC East, and I’m having a very difficult time figuring out who in the SEC East is going to surpass the Bulldogs. I think Florida is improved. I’m cautiously optimistic that group might be capable of challenging the Georgia Bulldogs. But it’s still pretty dang big gap. Georgia, a couple touchdown favorite this week on the road at Auburn, maybe we find out a little more about the Bulldogs when they go into what should be a very hostile environment. They’re the only team right now in the playoff lock category.”

Greg McElroy isn’t the only analyst who believes Georgia is in line for the CFP

Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt agrees with Greg McElroy that Georgia is a favorite to make the College Football Playoff.

Klatt broke down this year’s title contenders on the latest episode of The Joel Klatt Show, explaining that the easiness of the Bulldogs’ schedule and the struggles of the SEC mean the Bulldogs should have a set path to the College Football Playoff. Plus, Georgia has earned the benefit of the doubt.

He even said that he thinks this year will have “the easiest SEC Championship game to win in the last decade.”

“Georgia’s the most obvious team because they’re gonna be the toughest out in the country,” Klatt said. “This is a team that from a roster standpoint is as good as any out there and they’re gonna have the ability just to continue to get better the entire season because they’re not going to be really tested. So they’re not gonna be required to be at their best really until really the SEC Championship game.”
