Greg McElroy on Trevor Etienne: 'The sky's the limit'

Trevor Etienne crossed conference lines this offseason after transferring following two seasons at Florida to Georgia. His talents will now be the Bulldogs’ to use on offense, which will obviously be a significant plus for the unit in Athens.

Greg McElroy tabbed Etienne as the No. 8 RB in all of college football during a recent episode of ‘Always College Football’. He expects him to be even better now than he was the pair of seasons prior because of what he already is and what his new team can put him along with.

“If you look at just how he played these last couple years? Man, he’s going to be awesome,” said McElroy. “I feel like the sky is the limit now with some of the pieces that they have around him.”

McElroy sees this addition as one that’ll give Georgia the lead back that some didn’t think they had last year. That back will also come with some versatility considering how he can also catch throws out of the backfield.

“If you look last year, if Georgia had that one Achilles heel, it was the lack of a truly dynamic back in the backfield, which is rare for the Georgia Bulldogs. Trevor Etienne might be able to provide that,” said McElroy.

“249 career carries, 1,472 yards and 14 touchdowns,” McElroy noted. “Was really more of kind of a pass-catcher last year. So his contributions to the passing game will be very beneficial to the Georgia Bulldogs as well.”

Etienne played in 24 games for the Gators over the last two falls but only started once. That’s due to him sharing carries with Montrell Johnson Jr.. He led Florida in rushing over that time with Etienne being second only to him.

In 279 touches in his career, Etienne has posted 1,710 total yards, good for 6.1 per opportunity, and 15 touchdowns. That’s good for 61.3 rush yards per game and 5.9 per carry. Those also pair with an average of 7.9 receiving yards per catch.

With that production as an underclassman, Etienne was the No. 19 overall transfer and the No. 3 RB in On3’s 2024 Transfer Portal Top Players. He rated behind only Quinshon Judkins (Ohio State) and Damien Martinez (Miami) as the top backs in the portal.

After entering his name early on in December, Etienne then committed to Georgia on Christmas Eve.

Etienne committed to the ‘Dawgs to be the lead back for a national contender. He’s expected to be exactly that too with what he could bring to the ground that’s between the hedges at Georgia.
