Georgia has their SEC opener on Saturday, heading north to face off against the South Carolina Gamecocks. However, head coach Kirby Smart could be without two key players in AD Mitchell and Nyland Green.

Smart provided an update on both players during Wednesday’s SEC teleconference, saying both Mitchell and Green are doubtful against South Carolina. Green has not been able to practice with Georgia, while Mitchell has gone through a couple of walkthroughs. Even so, Smart does not think either will be on the field.

“Both of those guys are doubtful right now,” said Smart. “Nyland has not been able to practice. AD is getting treatment. Paying attention to him. Been going through walkthroughs but no determination has been made.”

Mitchell was held out of last week’s game against Samford and at the time, Smart described the decision as precautionary. As for Green, a hamstring issue has been bothering him since the season opener against Oregon. For now, it seems as if Georgia will be without both.

Kirby Smart says William Poole is dealing with a personal issue

Defensive back William Poole could be in a similar position as Mitchell and Nyland. However, he is not injured according to the Georgia head coach. Smart says Poole is dealing with a personal issue and may not make the trip to Columbia.

“He’s dealing with some personal issues right now, and we’ll see if he makes the trip or not,” said Smart.

Poole has only made one appearance for Georgia this season, playing as a reserve against Oregon. He is a sixth-year senior for the Bulldogs and played in 34 career games. While many have not been in a starting role, he is still critical to what Smart is trying to do with his defense.
