Heather Dinich weighs in on Georgia's lackluster start to the season: 'I don't think their problems are serious'
Georgia is 5-0 and still No. 1 in the country, but without appearing nearly as dominant as they did during the Bulldogs’ back-to-back national championship-winning seasons. It’s because of those perceived struggles that Paul Finebaum is wondering if there are some underlying problems with the 2023 team.
The SEC Network host was joined by Heather Dinich on Wednesday’s episode of The Paul Finebaum Show to discuss those issues, with Finebaum asking ESPN’s College Football Playoff expert about Georgia: “How serious are their problems?”
Dinich responded: “I don’t think their problems are serious.”
“I think Carson Beck has really matured and has shown along the way that he can be what they need to be,” she continued. “But I also think that his job is a lot easier with Brock Bowers at tight end. You saw his heroics in the fourth quarter [against Auburn on Saturday].”
Finebaum also noted that Dinich rated Georgia No. 3 in the country in her latest College Football Playoff rankings, which isn’t the No. 1 spot they’re accustomed to.
“For me, Georgia at No. 3 is simply a matter of: Who have they played? Well, they’ve defeated everyone at home among lesser, unheralded and unranked opponents,” Dinich explained. “So they go on the road and they struggle against Auburn. That didn’t surprise me in the least, because they finally had to go on the road against, you know, a decent team.”

Dinich says UGA is coming along well but she’ll know much more about them and some other contenders as the schedule toughens up the rest of the way as we get into the thick of conference play.
“So, to me, they’re just kind of progressing and they are certainly an extremely talented team. I wouldn’t say that they have problems,” Dinich said. “But again, this is a team that, along with Michigan, we are going to find out a lot more about down the stretch. Heck, we’re going to find out a lot more about Georgia this weekend on Saturday when they play Kentucky.”
Kentucky comes to town after beating Florida for the third straight year and will look to cover the spread in their game against Georgia for the fifth straight year despite losing each of the last four seasons.
With such a streak, Kentucky has garnered the public money so far, with roughly 80% of bets coming in on the ‘Cats. In fact, after the line opened above 20 in favor of Georgia for the fourth year in the last five, it was swiftly bet down to just -14.5.
