Injury update provided Georgia DB Tykee Smith during SEC Championship
Georgia is on their way to another SEC Championship, making things look relatively easy against LSU. However, injuries still popped up in the first half, with two key players picking up knocks. Both offensive tackle Warren McClendon and wide receiver Ladd McConkey had to leave the game.
Now, McClendon and McConkey have officially been ruled out for the second half in Atlanta. They will not be back on the field to wrap up Saturday night’s game, as the Bulldogs just have two more quarters to play before hoisting another trophy.
McClendon was playing right tackle for Georgia before getting caught up in a group of people following an LSU blitz. McConkey had something similar happen to him down the field near the endzone, dealing with an apparent leg injury.
CBS sideline reporter Jenny Dell was able to give the exact diagnosis on the two offensive players, saying their respective left knees are the issue.
“Warren McClendon, Ladd McConkey, they are out for the rest of the game, dealing with left knee injuries,” Dell said.

Defensive back Tykee Smith was brought up by Dell as well, who has a shoulder problem. As of early in the third quarter, he has the opportunity to return to the field.
“Tykee Smith, the D-back,” Dell began. “He has a right shoulder contusion. He might return.”
Georgia does not have too much work left to do against LSU, maintaining their large lead despite a jolt of energy from the Tigers. Focusing on health moving forward will be crucial for head coach Kirby Smart, as the College Football Playoff becomes the main focus.
Whoever the opponent ends up being in the Peach Bowl, getting the likes of McClendon, McConkey, and Smith back on the field will be crucial. All three will play roles toward winning back-to-back national championships.
