Javon Bullard describes Georgia's hope to do something special in 2023
Georgia defensive back Javon Bullard knows what the Bulldogs must do to accomplish something special in 2023.
The Bulldogs can win their third straight national title this coming season, something that’s never been done before. Bullard was confident in his team to accomplish that goal.
But, that comes with a catch.
“We won a natty the year before and then we won last year,” Bullard said. “So what? We’re trying to do something no one’s ever done before. In order to do that, we gotta be better than we were last year and we’re trying to improve and accomplish that goal.”
One thing that could help an elite Georgia defense get back to the national championship? Bullard’s move to strong safety.
“It has definitely been fun,” Bullard said after Georgia’s G-Day game, via Dawgs HW. “Football is going to be football. I still play defensive back. It’s not like I moved to receiver or anything like that. I love it, man. The coaches brought me in and told me they were thinking about a position change. Like I said, it was definitely a challenge because you’re going into another world as far as safety. Safety is basically another linebacker.

“You’ve got to know because there’s so many checks in our defense but I feel like it was amazing, man. Just dialing in and the coaches helping me and really just taking that ownership and doing what I can to make the team better.”
Kirby Smart excited by Georgia’s spring performance
As the Bulldogs begin their quest for a three-peat, Kirby Smart’s team isn’t letting all their success go to their head. Speaking with the media on Saturday, the Georgia leader explained why he’s enthusiastic regarding the Bulldogs’ performance over the last month.
Like Bullard said with Georgia, Smart said there was excitement around the program once again.
“I’m excited. I’ve always said, you know we’re built to sustain here, and that’s my motto,” Smart said. “We’re not trying to be a one-hit wonder. We put a really good football team out there each year, and we’re well on our way to doing that this time. We’ve probably got the most cohesive unit we’ve had, in terms of the guys love being with each other, they like practicing hard. I mean, we had 14 of the 15 days, I really thought we had good practices. That includes today.
“I was really pleased with their work ethic. So they like practicing. They like football. When people come to your practices and they visited seven other schools and they say, ‘Man, y’all get after it. Man, your guys are hard. Man, your guys buy in and have fun.’ It makes me feel better that our kids enjoy it.”
