Joel Klatt believes Georgia could make a big switch vs Michigan
After the drubbing Alabama handed Georgia in the SEC Championship Game, Bulldogs fans everywhere had change on their mind. Evidently, Joel Klatt is in agreement — Georgia got a reality check with their first loss of the season.
Earlier this week on The Herd with Colin Cowherd, Klatt joined the namesake to discuss Georgia’s mentality going into the College Football Playoff.
“Michigan’s playing as well as anybody out there. They’re playing balanced football. The spread’s about where I thought it would be. Georgia is clearly favored. If I had to make a straight up pick, I’d probably pick Georgia,” revealed Klatt, prior to getting into Georgia’s issues. “Stetson Bennett, and it’s not just him — it’s just the nature and philosophy in which they go about trying to win football games.
“They were lulled to sleep by a schedule that they thought was going to be tough that ended up not being very tough. .. The schedule that they thought was going to test them, and boy our defense is incredible, maybe the best ever. It wasn’t actually tested to that point. So they were lulled to sleep as if they did not need the 2020, end of the season version of their offense under J.T. Daniels. Then all of a sudden they get up against Bama. It’s like oh wait, that’s right, we did learn that lesson last year. And apparently we went away from it.”
Klatt on if Georgia should start J.T. Daniels against Michigan
Furthermore, Cowherd is a firm believer that Georgia needs to make a switch at quarterback. While Klatt is in agreement, he believes it’s a risky move for Kirby Smart and company to turn to J.T. Daniels.

“I think it’s somewhat risky, but I don’t disagree with that at all,” stated Klatt. “He’s a much better and more efficient passer when it gets to the second and third level, opposed to what they have. I think that he can make the tight ends much better.”
Georgia has relied on their defense and the conservativeness of Stetson Bennett to win games this season. Thus far, it worked to perfection — until Alabama came along. Now, the blueprint to defeat them is out for the world to see.
Entering the College Football Playoff, Joel Klatt recognizes Georgia may need to make a change. While it’s risky, it could be the difference between a memorable season, or forever wondering what could’ve been.
