Joel Klatt believes the Brock Bowers injury will eventually be a blessing for Georgia
While the words ‘vulnerable’ and ‘Georgia‘ haven’t gone together in quite some time, there is a sense that the Bulldogs are a little bit more unprotected without the services of Brock Bowers. Even so, Joel Klatt knows that the defending champions will be better in the end after his absence.
Klatt made his point about the ‘Dawgs during his show on Monday. Without Bowers, some version of a crutch is taken away from their offense considering how special he is. That means, if they can survive this stretch – something they already proved they could do after their 43-20 win over Florida this weekend – without him, Klatt believes Carson Beck and the rest of the unit could reach a whole new level.
“The Bowers injury, as long as they can continue to play well, is going to, eventually, be a blessing,” Klatt said. “If they get to a point where they can score 40 points, 43 points without Bowers on the field? When they get him back, they will be exponentially better. This is shaping up perfectly for Georgia.”
“This team looks to be finding a gear that they didn’t know that they had without Brock Bowers, which is going to pay huge dividends for them down the stretch,” continued Klatt. “I would assume that we’re going to see Bowers at least by, hopefully, the conference championship game’s week. But, almost certainly, before the playoff. If Beck becomes this confident thrower than can throw for 300 yards whether Bowers is on the field or not? When he gets Bowers, they’re going to take the next step.”
Bowers has been Georgia’s leading receiver this season and in the two previous seasons. He has been one of the nation’s best weapons, if not the best, in that time. Over his three seasons, Bowers has career stats of 160 catches for over 2,300 yards and 24 scores.

That’s why, without him after the bye week due to his ankle surgery, Georgia, specifically their offense, is going to have to come up with new ways to win rather than just relying on Bowers.
Think of it like a really smart student taking a math test without a calculator. Would the calculator help? Absolutely. Do they necessarily need it, though? Maybe not and, if that’s the case, they’ll be better off for acing the exam without the extra aide.
With that scenario playing out in Athens, Klatt believes everyone should start to get a little anxious about the Bulldogs as we head into November.
“Everybody should be worried about Georgia because Georgia is starting to look like a really great team,” said Klatt.
