Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis had plenty of company with him on draft day. He and his Bulldogs teammates achieved one dream together by winning the national championship this past season, and now set out to mark another off the list at the 2022 NFL Draft.

Davis was the second of five Georgia players taken in the first round on Thursday, going 13th overall to the Philadelphia Eagles. During his introductory press conference the following day, Davis explained how special it was for him and the rest of his teammates to share that moment side by side.

“It’s an amazing feeling,” he said. “We’ve been talking about this day for a long time. We had a goal at Georgia to win a national championship and also go to the NFL. So far us five and the ones that’s gonna be called today and tomorrow, it’s just a testament to how hard we’ve worked for this moment. Especially last night, those four guys that went alongside me, we put a lot of dedication in. Those are guys that you talk to almost every day and have that bond with them because you’re grinding so hard and want to achieve that common goal, so you always hang around each other. Birds of feather flock together.”

Georgia had 15 players taken overall in the draft, which set an NFL record during the seven-round era. Defensive lineman Travon Walker (No. 1 overall), linebacker Quay Walker (No. 22), defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt (No. 28), and safety Lewis Cine (No. 32) were the other Bulldogs selected in Round 1. Additionally, linebacker Nakobe Dean also went to the Eagles in the third round, and will remain teammates with Davis during the pair’s rookie season.

The Eagles were bullish on Davis, so much so that they traded up to select him, sending the No. 15, 124, 162 and 166 overall picks to Houston for the No. 13 selection. He should make an impact right away in Philadelphia, as he was one of the most highly touted prospects according to draft pundits.

In his four seasons with Georgia, Jordan Davis emerged as one of the top defensive players in the entire nation. The star defensive lineman was the recipient of the Chuck Bednarik Award this past season, presented annually to the best defensive player in college football. Now he’ll hope to bring the same impact to the NFL, along with the rest of his college teammates.
