JT Daniels injury: Latest availability update ahead of Georgia vs. UAB
Georgia quarterback JT Daniels is currently going through pregame warmups ahead of the Bulldogs’ meeting with UAB, according to Reggie Chatman Jr. of 11Alive News in Atlanta. The Bulldogs team has been ravaged by injuries and a COVID-19 outbreak since last weeks win over Clemson, but the star quarterback is hoping to get on the field. It remains unclear whether he will be able to play in the game.
Previous reports indicated Daniels would miss the UAB game this weekend with an oblique strain. ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis said on Saturday morning’s show that Daniels is making a push to play against UAB.
Backup quarterbacks Carson Beck or Stetson Bennett are thought to be the top options if Daniels is unable to go.
More on the quarterback depth chart
Reports first emerged on Friday that JT Daniels was likely to miss Georgia’s home opener against UAB. Beck’s personal quarterback coach Denny Thompson said on Friday morning that Beck is going to be Georgia’s likely starter against UAB. If it is Beck that ultimately starts for Georgia, it would be the first start of his collegiate career.

Beck played his high school football at Mandarin High School in Jacksonville, Florida. He led Mandarin to its first state title in program history in 2019 and was named as Florida’s Mr. Football. Beck is a redshirt freshman and joined Georgia as a four-star recruit in the 2020 recruiting cycle. In Georgia’s spring game, Beck impressed by completing 22 of his 31 pass attempts for 236 yards and two touchdowns.
Another option is fan favorite Stetson Bennett, who played eight games for Georgia in 2020. After throwing for 1,179 yards and eight touchdowns as a starter last season, he is now battling for a backup role.
The final quarterback on the roster is true freshman Brock Vandagriff. He is 5-star prospect who comes to Georgia as one of the top quarterbacks in the class. Vandagriff enrolled early and took place in spring practices and had 47 yards on nine passes during the spring game.
