There are very few words or things to describe Georgia Bulldogs quarterback Stetson Bennett leading the team on a huge fourth quarter comeback to win the Peach Bowl and earn a spot in the College Football Playoff National Championship. However, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart found a comparison for his quarterback. And after their victory, smart compared Bennett’s approach in the fourth quarter comeback to a famous movie.

“Did you ever see the movie Cool Hand Luke? The guy has no conscience,” said Smart. “He makes a mistake, makes a poor play; he wipes it off, and he comes right back. And these players believe in him, and I believe in him. Our defense believes in him, and he keeps making us believers.

Ohio State took a 38-24 lead into the fourth quarter and looked to be in full control of the game. But that was nowhere near the case as Bennett led the Bulldogs on three great scoring possessions in the quarter. The first was a 31-yard field goal. That was followed by a 76-yard touchdown pass to Arian Smith, topped off with a two-point conversion. Bennett finished the game with 398 passing yards, completing 23 of his 34 pass attempts, three touchdown passes, one interception, and a rushing touchdown.

Up next for Bennett and the Bulldogs is a winner take all matchup against the TCU Horned Frogs for the national championship on Monday. TCU, the third ranked team, was able to outlast Michigan, ranked second, in their semifinal showdown 51-45.

Smart provides initial impressions of TCU ahead of national title game

After narrowly escaping Ohio State in their College Football Playoff semifinal, all that stands between the Georgia Bulldogs and their quest to become back-to-back national champions are the TCU Horned Frogs. As Georgia prepares for their upcoming title bout, head coach Kirby Smart provided his initial impressions of TCU.

“Yeah, tremendous team, tremendous program,” said Smart. “He’s won wherever he’s been. He’s done a great job. Their kids believe. They have, I feel like just reading and listening about them, a lot of similarities to our kids in terms of the culture created there, the way they play, the way they believe. I think I saw a stat; they have the most comebacks in college football in the fourth quarter. And that shows what your mental makeup is.

“Their conference has been in a lot of tight ball games, and they’ve won those tight ball games. And done an incredible job with what they do. And they create really tough situations defensively, do an incredible job on special teams. Have one of the best returners I’ve ever faced in the return game and score a lot of points on offense with the Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback. So it’s a recipe to be playing for the national championship.”

TCU showed that they more than belonged in the national championship conversation by defeating the only other undefeated team, the Michigan Wolverines. If Smart and his Bulldogs want to finish the year as national champions, then they cannot take the Horned Frogs lightly.
